Adaptations

Monday, we talked about animal adaptations.  An adaptation is a unique characteristic that allows an animal to protect itself or makes work easier.  We talked about how prey usually have adaptations that protect them from danger.  An example of this is a baby seal.  Baby seals are not as active as their parents.  Their white coat protects them from predators such as killer whales, as they are able to blend in to the snow.  We also talked about how predators usually have an adaptation that allows them to hunt better.  An example of this is a cat.  Cats have long tails that allow them to stay balanced when they are chasing their prey.

Look at the pictures below.  Can you identify the animal adaptation?   How does it help them?

See you later alligator!

What is the difference between a crocodile and an alligator?

Payton brought in a special find from Florida for the Mystery Bag on Monday.

We discussed the characteristics of a reptile:
1. They lay eggs (most).
2. They have scales.
3. They are cold-blooded.
4. They breathe air.
5. They have a spinal cord.

Measuring Pictures

Tuesday, we used our rulers to measure out strips of paper.  We wrote the length in cm on the strip and then glued our pieces to paper to make a detailed picture.
